Orbea Opal

Here is a smoking deal on a really nice Orbea Opal 54cm equipped with a Sram Rival group and Shimano RS 20 wheelset. This bike was originally priced at $3399 and is on sale at $2699. Here is what Orbea USA has to say about the Opal:

With a more classic European yet modernized frame aesthetic, the Opal delivers tremendous value at a competitive price point for the serious yet perhaps more conservative customer. The combination of a simplified rounder, oversized shape with Orbea's SSN technology and the same high-performance materials as the top-of-the-line Orca, provides the stiff and sturdy ride that this scene demands. Taking all mechanical properties into account, the blend of M30S F1 high-modulus and T700 medium-modulus carbon fibers allow the Opal to deliver confidence through the tightest corners, power in the fastest sprints and durability for the most aggressive riders. Look for the ride of choice for countless racers and serious cyclists atop the podium across the American race circuit.

Salsa Vaya

Colonel's has another Salsa Vaya in stock in size 56cm and a Vaya frameset in 55cm. This has been a popular touring/adventure road bike since it was released a couple of months back.

Here is the Vaya description from the Salsa web site:

The Vaya is our road adventure bike, designed to take on any surface that someone might consider a ‘road’.

Crafted of Salsa Classico CroMoly, the Vaya is loaded with braze-on’s for fenders, racks, and lowriders. This makes everything from wet weather commutes to full-on touring a breeze.

Stable geometry keeps the bike from being twitchy, and makes the bike a pleasure to ride while loaded. Our two smallest Vaya sizes use 26” wheels to provide better fit, improved standover clearance, and to eliminate toe overlap. The larger Vaya sizes use 700c wheels.

Enjoy a long day in the saddle. Link up pavement and gravel. Hit that limestone rails-to-trails route you’ve always wanted to do. Do a light tour. Or load your panniers to the hilt for a month of two-wheeled exploring. The Vaya will get you there. And bring you back.

Vaya. A true do-it-all road-riding bike.

Keep track of Colonel's customer Dave Hill, riding his Vaya cross country at tourdedavid.blogspot.com

Give us a call if you have any questions about the Vaya or any of our other touring products. (817) 924-1333 We would be glad to ship one to your home or business provided you live or work in the lower 48 states.

Thanks,

Colonel's

Fort Worth Mountain Bike Association Needs Your Help!

This Sunday June 13th the FWMBA will host a work day at Gateway Park. The club has already built several miles of quality mountain bike trails and needs your help to expand the trail system. Here is the post from trail steward Matt Kocian about the work day:

It's time for a big workday to hopefully finish up the oxbow expansion. This section will be a fun addition to the trail, but we need as many people as we can get to get it ready to ride.

So if you would please spread the word about the workday.

More details to follow.

Workday will start at 8am and finish when we get tired.

I would recommend gloves, eye wear, and water. Any tools you have such as loppers, rakes, or saws. We will have additional equipment for you if you don't have any of your own.

We will cool off in the shade after the workday so bring a lawn chair and red cup I will bring the
watermelon.

For more information go to FWMBA.ORG

Salsa Mamasita

Anybody looking for a good deal on a Salsa Mamasita frame? I bought this one as a complete bike and put the parts kit on my new El Mariachi Ti. Size: Large. Now we have the frame on sale for $750.00.

Here is what Salsa has to say about the 29er Mamasita frame:

Designed as a racing frame, the Mamasita is crafted of custom drawn scandium alloy tubing with carbon seatstays. There’s a lot more than big wheels happening here though folks.

The specially shaped scandium alloy chainstays and our carbon seatstays minimize lateral flex. This stiffens the bottom bracket area and rear triangle, and maximizes the efficiency of each pedal stroke.

The chainstay and seatstay design also works to soak up trail vibration, while not removing the feel of the trail from beneath your wheels. Our goal was to design a frame that provides subtle damping, without making the bike feel dead.

Geometry-wise, the Mamasita has been updated to work well with the current fork offsets from Fox and RockShox. We believe the go-fast crowd will appreciate the predictable handling while keeping the Mamasita pinned on the racecourse.

Mamasita. Not just pretty fast. Pretty and fast!

Give us a call at (817) 924-1333 or email at info@colonelsbikes.com . We will ship to the lower 48 states.

Thanks,

Colonel.

Gateway Time Trial #6

Another great race at Gateway Park! This week's event was prefaced by some rain and the threat of some serious thunderstorms. Fortunately the rain did not affect the course negatively, in fact, the small amount of rain made it even better for most riders. Two riders suffered injuries that took them out of the contest, but they are A-OK.

This week, I introduced a new contest by asking all riders to predict their time on the course. Most riders overestimated their time.
Here are the result(in no particular order) with time predictions in parenthesis!

Round 1 (2 laps)

Jeff Noon 24:31 (24:50)
Trey Richardson DNF due to injury. We wish him the best!!

I just finished 6th @ Kansas 70.3 on Sunday. I was running down 4th and 5th spot but just ran out of time before the finish. I couldn't have done it without Colonels support! Josh and Aubrey are simply the best Mechanics in DFW and the Ordu was running very fast on race day.
Next up is Buffalosprings 70.3!

Salsa El Mariachi Ti

The new Salsa El Mariachi Ti is in stock now. We have two medium frames in store. We had a large but I couldn't resist temptation and bought it for myself. If you like a light, stiff, durable bike with a silky ride then this one is for you. Made in America by Lynskey and retails for only $1799.99. Here is what Salsa has to say about the new El Mariachi: We first introduced our steel El Mariachi in 2007, and riders have given it rave reviews ever since.

The El Mariachi Ti takes that same great performance, and improves upon it by crafting it from 3/2.5 seamless titanium. Titanium offers a truly unique balance of strength, low weight, stiffness, vibration damping, and durability.

The combination of this Ti tubing, Salsa geometry, and big wheels deliver a smooth ride on root and rock-strewn singletrack.

Whether you’re putting on the big boy (or girl) pants and taking on that NUE-series 100-miler, or just joining your local crew for an all-day trail riding beatdown, the El Mariachi Ti will keep you coming back for another delicious serving of dirt.

Come on by and take a look or give us a call at (817) 924-1333. We can also ship you one if your located in the lower 48. email: info@colonelsbikes.com

Thanks-Colonel.

There will be separate prizes for this event compliments of GWTT's premier sponsor, Fred's TEXAS!

Well, the thank you list: Terry & John Chandler for the great support/delicious food, Anna Clark-Huey, Gina, the Peddler, MBBC, Alex(course marshal), Colonel's Bikes(the e-z up was nice during the rain, and to all of the riders for helping make this as fun as possible. Cielo Steel Singlespeed Makes It's Pro Racing Debut At Mello Johnny's Spring Classic !

A few of us from Colonel's Bicycles visited Austin last weekend for the Mellow Johnny's Spring Classic mountain bike race. We were shocked to find honorary Colonel's Army team member Will Black piecing together what appeared to be one of the first available Cielo steel singlespeed bikes...in the parking lot, the day before the UCI pro race! According to WB, he had motorcycle mechanic of the stars Wyatt Seals revalve and change the travel on a front fork(back in Carolina)to the specific needs of the bike's frame geometry & Will's personal riding style! After a practice lap and a few tweaks he was ready for Saturday's race, where he finished 17th in an international field that was stacked really deep with talent! Will was the oldest rider in the field and I believe the only rider on a steel frame...and oh yea, he didn't have any gears!
With 2 days of racing on hand, most of the pros that raced Saturday opted not to race on Sunday due to the heat, although a few of the guys that pulled out on Saturday came back fresh on Sunday to finish at the front. The Will Black mounted Cielo came back to finish 6th.
I think all of us here would agree as well as the guys at Chris King, the WB singlespeed Cielo effort gets the K.O.R. award for the weekend...Keeper Of Real !
