Anybody looking for a good deal on a Salsa Mamasita frame? I bought this one as a complete bike and put the parts kit on my new El Mariachi Ti. Size: Large. Now we have the frame on sale for $750.00.

Designed as a racing frame, the Mamasita is crafted of custom drawn scandium alloy tubing with carbon seatstays. There’s a lot more than big wheels happening here though folks.

The specially shaped scandium alloy chainstays and our carbon seatstays minimize lateral flex. This stiffens the bottom bracket area and rear triangle, and maximizes the efficiency of each pedal stroke.

The chainstay and seatstay design also works to soak up trail vibration, while not removing the feel of the trail from beneath your wheels. Our goal was to design a frame that provides subtle damping, without making the bike feel dead.

Geometry-wise, the Mamasita has been updated to work well with the current fork offsets from Fox and RockShox. We believe the go-fast crowd will appreciate the predictable handling while keeping the Mamasita pinned on the racecourse.

Gateway Time Trial #6

Another great race at Gateway Park! This week's event was prefaced by some rain and the threat of some serious thunderstorms. Fortunately the rain did not affect the course negatively, in fact, the small amount of rain made it even better for most riders. Two riders suffered injuries that took them out of the contest, but they are A-OK.

This week, I introduced a new contest by asking all riders to predict their time on the course. Most riders overestimated their time.

6th @ Kansas 70.3

Dear Doug, Rick and Sulley,

I just finished 6th @ Kansas 70.3 on Sunday. I was running down 4th and 5th spot but just ran out of time before the finish. I couldn't have done it without Colonels support! Josh and Aubrey are simply the best Mechanics in DFW and the Ordu was running very fast on race day.
Next up is Buffalosprings 70.3!

Gateway Time Trial #5/ upcoming events!!

Yet again, Wed. night mountain bike racing dominates DFW!!! 6-2-2010 marked the beginning of June's points series. There will be several different contests this month to shake things up a little bit. Next weeks course will be different... I'm not telling just yet, but comparing previous times will not matter!! Also, Terry Chandler of Fred's Texas Cafe, has introduced a new contest into the mix: Predict your time. This means that each rider will have to predict his/her best time for the length of the event. There will be separate prizes for this event compliments of GWTT's premier sponsor, Fred's TEXAS!

Cielo Steel Singlespeed Makes It's Pro Racing Debut At Mello Johnny's Spring Classic !

A few of us from Colonel's Bicycles visited Austin last weekend for the Mellow Johnny's Spring Classic mountain bike race. We were shocked to find honorary Colonel's Army team member Will Black piecing together what appeared to be one of the first available Cielo steel singlespeed bikes...in the parking lot, the day before the UCI pro race! According to WB, he had motorcycle mechanic of the stars Wyatt Seals revalve and change the travel on a front fork(back in Carolina)to the specific needs of the bike's frame geometry & Will's personal riding style! After a practice lap and a few tweaks he was ready for Saturday's race, where he finished 17th in an international field that was stacked really deep with talent! Will was the oldest rider in the field and I believe the only rider on a steel frame...and oh yea, he didn't have any gears!
With 2 days of racing on hand, most of the pros that raced Saturday opted not to race on Sunday due to the heat, although a few of the guys that pulled out on Saturday came back fresh on Sunday to finish at the front. The Will Black mounted Cielo came back to finish 6th.
I think all of us here would agree as well as the guys at Chris King, the WB singlespeed Cielo effort gets the K.O.R. award for the weekend...Keeper Of Real !
